An ambush has been reported on oil exploration workers and security operatives on a roadtrip to Maiduguri from the Magumeri and Gubio axis of Borno state.
Boko haram terrorists are suspected to be responsible for the attack and abduction of some of the members of the team.
The team consists of staff of the Geology Department of the University of Maiduguri on Consultancy service, staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and security operatives including Civilian Joint Task Force on escort duties.
More than twenty persons, out of which ten are believed to be staff of the university are feared abducted in the attack.
Sources say todays mission was meant to be the last until the unfortunate attack.
It is not clear if lives were lost in the process.
May this year the federal government said it had finally resumed exploratory activities in the Lake Chad Basin following the return of peace.
